About Thotharis

Hello and welcome to my corner of the internet!

I am Mohammed Elsoukkary, a former Egyptian diplomat with a lot to say on the topic of international relations. I worked in diplomacy for a little over a decade and half, and ran the gamut of the field, working bilateral, multilateral, consular, and everything in between.

After resigning my diplomatic position last year, I joined my family to settle down after years of hopping from one place to another. But the call of diplomacy never truly left me, so I decided to carve out this space where I can share my thoughts on diplomacy, international relations, global affairs, and other fields I find intriguing.

What is Thotharis?

After a foray into the world of real estate, I realized my passion for diplomacy still burned bright. Thotharis is the result—a platform where I share my insights on the global arena and offer a peek behind the scenes of how international diplomacy works.

Here, you’ll find posts on a wide range of topics, from emerging trends like AI's impact on international relations to deep dives into the forces shaping governmental and intergovernmental decision-making.

For diplomats (and those in related fields), I offer dedicated content with tips on navigating this complex and dynamic environment, both personally and professionally.

Why the Name?

This is one of the first questions I get asked, so in the interest of transparency, many domains with ‘diplo’ were either taken or too expensive, so I chose something that connects with my Egyptian background and emphasizes the value of learning.

Thoth is the Egyptian God of wisdom and languages, depicted as a man with the head of an ibis, which coincidentally made the process of selecting a logo fairly uncomplicated.

What do you get with a Subscription?

For now, Thotharis is a small, self-funded project. But with your support, it could grow into something much larger. While some content will always remain free, a paywall will soon cover the more in-depth sections.

Free

With a free subscription, you’ll receive a weekly briefing newsletter, recapping the week’s key developments.

paid

A paid subscription gives you full access to all in-depth articles when the paywalls go up, as well as the Thotharis Biweekly newsletter, which dives deeper into key takeaways from recent developments.
